Malone Racing 2008 season review.
The Team had a rough season this year but had alot of fun, made some new friends and gained some experience.
In 2008 Riverhead Raceway included the legend cars in its schedule giving the division 8 races for the season. Malone racing was eager to return to the track and purchased a great used car for the upcoming season. The plan for the team was to run the full season at Riverhead raceway and travel to a few other tracks in between races. The new car ran great at the pre-season practice turning some respectable lap times. The team was confident heading into the first race of the season. The first race started out great, we won our heat race and started up front for the feature. We took the lead and held it for the first half of the race until someone dropped some oil on the track. This sent us sliding head on into the turn 1 wall. The car suffered some repairable damage but caused the team to miss races 2, 3 and 4 at Riverhead. With the help of Ray Scigowski, Malone racing returned to the track for Race number 5 with a second place finish. Malone racing returned for race 6 finishing 5th. The team had to skip race 7 due to family obligations. In August the team entered Legendstock at Bethel Motor Speedway. This event drew some of the top drivers in the northeast to race for a $3,000 purse. 34 cars were on hand to try and make the 25 car 40 lap feature event.The Malone racing #47 qaulified for the A main and was running 11th with 3 laps to go when they got caught up in an incident and spun off the track. The team finished 17th but was proud to be able to compete with some of the best teams around. Malone racing returned to Riverhead for race number 8 and finished 5th for the final race of Riverhead's 2008 legend season. Malone racing ended their season with a final trip to Bethel Motor speedway winning the heat race and finishing second in the feature.
